Welcome to the EU-US Forum Weekly Tip Sheet, your go-to product for information about the EU-US Forum and its work, timely updates on the dangerous far-left ideas coming out of the European Union, and detailed analysis on the key players influencing European politics.
We send this out weekly to keep you apprised of the most important political and policy topics in Europe as we continue to work toward our mission of exposing the EU’s radical agenda and the threat it poses to the US and Western Civilization.
1. 🇪🇺 ORWELLIAN?
The U.S. State Department is taking a stand against Europe’s Digital Services Act (DSA) “Orwellian” censorship.
The State Department responded to a post from the French Mission to the UN, which stated that Europeans are “free to speak” and not spread “illegal information.”
Speech laws in the EU have gotten increasingly more restrictive in recent years, forcing Europeans to put their heads down and quietly comply with the regulations of their leadership. Citizens in some EU countries like Germany can even get arrested for doing as little as posting an incorrect quote to their social media. Something as silly as reposting fake news could end up resulting in JAIL TIME.
The U.S. has already pushed back on out-of-control speech regulations, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio banning visas for foreign officials involved in such censorship.
EU bureaucrats have gotten far too comfortable taking away the liberties of their citizens. The United States is paving the path for protecting free speech in Europe and around the globe.
2.🪨 MACRON HITS ROCK BOTTOM
President Emmanuel Macron’s popularity has just cratered to a record low, falling below 20% for the first time since he entered the Élysée Palace in 2017.
According to IFOP polling, Macron now sits at 19% support, even lower than during the Yellow Vest uprising in 2018.
His Prime Minister, François Bayrou, fares no better at 18%, giving the pair the impressive and distinct honor of being the least popular executive duo in the history of the Fifth Republic.
Another threat to the numbers of these French leaders comes as the country grapples with a serious budget crisis.
Bayrou’s response to this crisis? Wildly unpopular tax hikes, slashed public holidays, and restrictions on sick leave and vacation time… policies guaranteed to enrage working-class voters on both the left and the right.
All this comes amidst a rising backlash over the government’s inability, or outright refusal, to address core social concerns of its citizens. On June 6, Breitbart London reported that nearly 60% of people in France believe that Macron has contributed to a decline in freedom.
If this is what “European leadership” looks like, it’s no wonder citizens across the continent are losing faith.
🇺🇸 GIVE ME A/C OR GIVE ME DEATH
A new analysis from The Free Press this week makes a bold claim: American’s standard of living now far outpaces that of Europe’s.
While movies and social media would lead you to believe Europe is the perfect vacation destination filled with charm, history, and great food…if you pull back the curtain and look at the data, there are serious problems burdening those who live there.
The standard of living in Europe has been stifled by censorship, regulation, and climate activism, barring people from accessing what middle-class Americans deem as essentials: air conditioning, dryers, and gas-powered cars.
New findings show Europeans are dying from heatwaves in extraordinary numbers. In some parts of Europe, if a person has air conditioning running without a medical need, they can face hefty fines for simply trying to beat the heat.
EU member countries act as if they have a moral high ground over America. But what is a moral high ground if it comes at the expense of not only one’s quality of life, but life itself?
