The EU-US Forum, a nonprofit organization that shines a light on the harmful policies coming out of the EU in order to stop them from spreading to the US, today applauded President Trump’s call on the European Union to repeal the growth-killing extraterritorial directive, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), before it harms America’s Golden Age.
This week, President Trump posted to Truth Social: “100% CORRECT,” in response to a Financial Times opinion article from US Ambassador to the EU Andrew Puzder titled “Europe should repeal the directive that’s killing growth.”
Matt Mowers, EU-US Forum Board Member and former Senior White House Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, made the following statement:
“Thank you, President Trump for agreeing 100% that the European Union must repeal its growth-killing CSDDD. This extraterritorial directive is Brussels’ attempt to export their ESG bureaucracy to the United States, saddle our companies with massive compliance costs, and stunt American innovation. Any trade deal with the EU must include scrapping all extraterritoriality tied to the CSDDD and CSRD in the EU’s omnibus package. I applaud President Trump for drawing a clear line and defending U.S. competitiveness, and protecting American jobs.”
In light of President Trump’s Truth Social post, the EU-US Forum posted to X saying, “President Trump is right: Repeal the EU’s growth-killing CSDDD and CSRD. The EU is trying to punish American companies with extraterritorial overreach. President Trump won’t let that happen.”
BACKGROUND:
- EU-US Forum Board Member Matt Mowers penned an op-ed in late December warning about the war that the EU bureaucracy is waging on American industry with the CSDDD and CSRD. In the piece he writes, “The president and his team have not and will not sit idly by while a group of failed social engineers in a foreign capital attempts to regulate our best companies into oblivion. It’s important that they keep up the pressure and not let up in these final days of the year, when Brussels attempts to do its worst on CSRD and CSDDD.”
- Mowers joined the Dana Loesch Show in November to discuss the dangers of the CSDDD and CSRD. Mowers said, “It would subject American companies to the same exact onerous regulations that have stifled their own economy in Europe, here in the US.”
- The EU-US Forum praised Senate Banking Chairman Tim Scott and House Financial Services Chairman French Hill in December for authoring a letter to the U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, calling on the Trump administration to push the EU to stop the CSDDD and CSRD.
- In December, EU-US Forum ran a six-figure ad campaign featuring “America Calls The Shots” in Washington, DC, highlighting the dangers of the extraterritorial EU regulations on American companies in November.
- Polling from the EU-US Forum in November found that U.S. voters reject the EU’s CSRD/CSDDD and want the Trump Administration to use trade leverage to protect American businesses from these far-left ESG regulations.
- EU-US Forum released a six-figure ad campaign in November urging President Trump to keep standing up to EU rules that threaten America’s economic Golden Age. “Dictate” took aim at the European Union’s CSDDD and CSRD and the threat these rules pose to American companies.
