April 17, 2025 – EU-US Forum Tip Sheet

Welcome to the EU-US Forum Weekly Tip Sheet, your go-to product for information about the EU-US Forum and its work, timely updates on the dangerous far-left ideas coming out of the European Union, and detailed analysis on the key players influencing European politics.

We send this out weekly to keep you apprised of the most important political and policy topics in Europe as we continue to work toward our mission of exposing the EU’s radical agenda and the threat it poses to the US and Western Civilization.

1. 😵‍💫 FREEDOM REBRAND? THE ECONOMIST GIVES IT A NEW MEANING

In a recent piece that’s raising eyebrows, The Economist claimed that Europe has taken over America’s role as the “Land of the Free.” The outlet needs a reality check…

The truth is, across Europe, basic freedoms are under siege. European countries have implemented policies that restrict free speech and individual liberties.

Instances such as the arrest of individuals for silent prayer outside abortion clinics in the UK, or the two men who were arrested for posting their views about unchecked illegal immigration, are just some examples that highlight concerns about the erosion of fundamental freedoms in Europe. That’s not freedom, that’s government-approved behavior with a leash.

REMEMBER: CBS aired a segment on 60 Minutes conducting a ride-along with German police to raid a citizen’s home for online “hate speech.”

State prosecutors gleefully said that it’s a crime to insult people. 😵‍💫

If the Economist wants to call this “freedom,” they’ve lost what was left of their credibility.

The article’s portrayal of Europe’s approach to “free” speech, emphasizing boundaries and censorship, is the complete opposite of America’s tradition of total freedom of expression.

Calling Europe the new beacon of liberty? That’s not just wishful thinking — it’s rewriting the whole meaning of freedom.

2. 🗣️ HUNGARY GETS IT

“In Hungary, common sense matters.”

Defying the craziness of the progressive ideology sweeping across Europe, Hungary has taken a stand for biological truth. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government has amended the nation’s constitution to affirm that individuals are either male or female—a declaration rooted in science, not social constructs.

PM Viktor Orbán posted on X about the victory:

Hungary is unapologetically defending our next generation and the sanctity of the family unit. By codifying these principles into its constitution, Hungary sends a clear message: it will not bow to external pressures that seek to redefine fundamental truths.

In an era where Western nations are entangled in debates over gender identity, Hungary’s stance is a reminder that some countries still value clarity over confusion, and biology over ideology.

🏥 EU HANDS OVER CONTROL TO W.H.O.

The European Union is on the brink of handing over significant control of its pandemic response to the World Health Organization (WHO) through a new treaty. Yes, the same WHO that botched COVID from day one.

You’d think, after the disaster that was COVID-19, world leaders would be less eager to hand over power to global health bureaucrats. The WHO’s response to COVID-19 was marked by delays and missteps. It was slow to declare a global emergency, and its deference to China compromised the transparency and effectiveness of the global response.

FLASHBACK: In February, Jason Miller, Senior Advisor to President Donald Trump, spoke to members of the Italian Senate about why President Trump decided to withdraw the U.S. from the WHO and urged the Italian government to follow suit.

“If the WHO is going to be effectively pawns for China and for the CCP, then we have to make our voices heard.

That’s why the leadership from folks like Senator Claudio Borghi is so critical, and why the EU-US Forum is so important at this stage right now, because we have to use this commonality that we have. We have to use the pressure that we are able to exert to force the WHO to be responsive to member nations. This is something that can no longer continue in its current function. It has to be something where we take it back over and make sure that they’re following in a way that actually is representative of people, and as we saw with President Trump, in his very strong words, with regard to the WHO before, they have to go and actually bring some aspect of sensibility back to the organization.”

Yet the EU still wants to lock in a treaty that would let WHO call the shots on future pandemics. Lockdowns, vaccine mandates, border closures… all coordinated from Geneva. And they’re even floating the idea of a global vaccine passport. That’s not public health, that’s centralized control with zero accountability.

Nigel Farage and other leaders have launched campaigns against the treaty, emphasizing the need for nations to retain control over their public health policies.

The fact that the EU is even entertaining this is insane! 🤯 If COVID taught us anything, it’s that giving unelected international bodies sweeping power over our lives is a terrible idea. National sovereignty matters and transparency MATTER; the WHO has proven it is not up to the task on either.
