Welcome to the EU-US Forum Weekly Tip Sheet, your go-to product for information about the EU-US Forum and its work, timely updates on the dangerous far-left ideas coming out of the European Union, and detailed analysis on the key players influencing European politics.
We send this out weekly to keep you apprised of the most important political and policy topics in Europe as we continue to work toward our mission of exposing the EU’s radical agenda and the threat it poses to the US and Western Civilization.
1. 💸 EU FINES AMERICAN TECH COMPANIES ALMOST $1 BILLION
Absurd.
The Digital Markets Act (DMA), a European Union (EU) based regulatory framework designed to target successful American companies, continues to wreak havoc as the EU remains hellbent on pushing its extreme regulatory policies. Unfortunately, American companies are paying the price.
Just this week, the EU handed down its first set of fines under the DMA – $570 million against Apple and nearly $230 million against Meta.
What’s even more insane is that of the six companies the EU designated as ‘obligated to comply with EU rules’, five are American companies.
EU-US Forum Founding Board Member Matt Mowers weighed in during an interview on The Dana Show:.
“Let’s say exactly what this is. This isn’t about trying to increase competition. This is about trying to stifle American companies and innovators. That’s all it’s about. If you look at the framework of the language that they pass out of Brussels, in its digital markets legislation, what it does is essentially tries to create a framework that would only apply essentially to American companies, because where’s the innovation coming out of the United States. Where are the ideas coming from? The United States. Where do the platforms exist? The United States. Europeans are wholly relying upon technology, ideas, and innovation coming out of the U.S. here, because they’ve stifled so much of their own economy with the overregulation, that they now want to stop American innovators as well. This is nothing but the European Union trying to find a way to penalize American companies right now. And so we’re watching it closely at the EU us forum, and we know that the Trump administration is watching it closely, because they’ve already come out and made a really strong statement on that.”
When taking a closer look at the alleged violations, it’s pretty clear the EU has it out for these American companies from the get-go:
Apple made numerous and significant changes and met with EU officials repeatedly in an effort to comply with the law. Meta has also taken steps to comply with the DMA, and has argued that these regulations force the company to change their business model and require them to offer an inferior service. President Trump rightly pointed out that the EU is unfairly targeting U.S. companies. What’s more, the White House also said it would consider retaliation if the Europeans targeted American tech firms under the DMA or Digital Services Act.
We cannot ignore that these fines are coming down at the same time President Trump and the Administration are taking bold steps to correct unbalanced trade deals. Using American companies as bargaining chips in the EU’s ongoing trade dispute with the U.S. must end.
In an exclusive last week, the Wall Street Journal said the “EU delayed punishing Apple, Meta just before trade talks started.”
Remember, when these fines were still in the works, President Trump spoke out against them, stating:
“Whether you like them or not, they’re American companies, and [the EU] shouldn’t be doing that. That’s, as far as I’m concerned, it’s a form of taxation. So, we have some very big complaints with the EU.”
The EU’s excessive regulatory regime is out of control. Americans need to expose these harmful policies and fight back.
2. 🗣️ FREE SPEECH FOR ME, NOT FOR THEE
Here we go again. While the European Union is eager to play speech police for the rest of Europe, targeting those on the right, they’re actively turning a blind eye to antisemitism coming from their own party’s MPs.
A leftist member of Swedish parliament who recently posted antisemitic rhetoric on social media won’t be investigated. Even after the Jewish Central Council reported the MP to the police, there was little outrage, no condemnation, no fines, no accountability. Just a shrug and a pass.
The European Conservative says:
“Delgado Varas shared a post saying “Zionist Jews” control the world in the text below an image of a dark hand with an Israeli flag steering puppet hands with a U.S. flag which, in turn, controlled the movements of soldiers with German, British, French, Canadian, and Ukrainian flags. Her defense was that she had not seen the entire text beneath the image before sharing it—only the illustration where Israel secretly controls the U.S.”
The EU’s selective censorship movement isn’t going unnoticed. EU-US Forum posted about the abomination earlier this week:
To put it simply, if you’re a conservative questioning mass migration, posting a harmless meme, or daring to challenge the EU’s policies, you’re labeled a dangerous extremist. Your posts are flagged, removed, and you’re slapped with a fine. But if you’re a leftist spouting hateful speech, you’re just “expressing your opinion.” Right…
It’s hypocrisy wrapped in bureaucracy. The EU claims to fight “hate speech,” but really they’re just fighting speech they hate. These bureaucrats aren’t just failing to protect free expression, they are actively working to destroy it. Conservatives across the West need to wake up and call this what it is: ideological censorship.
🚜 BRUSSELS BUREAUCRACY IS BREAKING EU FARMERS
The European Union’s relentless push for environmental regulations is not only strangling Europe’s agricultural sector but also taking a severe toll on the mental health of farmers across Europe.
A recent Swedish study reveals that 77% of farmers cite EU-imposed bureaucracy and inspections as their primary sources of stress, surpassing concerns like unpredictable weather or financial pressures.
These burdensome regulations, often crafted by urban policymakers disconnected from rural realities, are leading to tragic outcomes.
Across Europe, the situation is equally dire, with a new report saying one farmer dies by suicide every two days in France as farmers struggle with “falling incomes, mounting debts and bureaucratic burdens.”
The EU’s ridiculous initiatives, like the “Farm to Fork” strategy and the Nature Restoration Law impose unrealistic demands on farmers, forcing them to make massive changes and adopt costly practices without adequate support. These policies not only jeopardize their livelihoods but also threaten Europe’s food security.
Remember, just last year, hundreds of farmers gathered to protest the EU’s radical climate agenda that would make farming impossible.
The EU’s overreach must be challenged. It’s vital that every single citizen in Europe advocates for policies that respect farmers’ expertise and preserve our agriculture. Our lives depend on it.
