June 12, 2025 – EU-US Forum Tip Sheet

Welcome to the EU-US Forum Weekly Tip Sheet, your go-to product for information about the EU-US Forum and its work, timely updates on the dangerous far-left ideas coming out of the European Union, and detailed analysis on the key players influencing European politics.

We send this out weekly to keep you apprised of the most important political and policy topics in Europe as we continue to work toward our mission of exposing the EU’s radical agenda and the threat it poses to the US and Western Civilization.

1. 🇫🇷 A NATION IN CRISIS: FRANCE’S FREEDOM EROSION UNDER MACRON

Recent polling out of France shows that six in 10 people feel that their freedom has declined under President Macron’s leadership.

Top concerns for French citizens are…

> Pillars of democracy > Right to privacy > Freedom of press

Nearly HALF of people feel like these important principles are all under attack! Other top concerns included freedoms related to religion, association, and conscience.

Concerns have grown and spread across party lines. The polling also showed that 94% of the leftist La France Insoumise Party and 88% of the populist National Rally all expressed deep concerns about their freedoms.

The CSA poll found that the vast majority of French citizens don’t trust leftist leadership.

This polling reflects EU-US Forum polling completed in January that showed a whopping 74% of French citizens disapprove of Macron’s leadership and decisions.

Macron is underwater. The conservative movement across Europe is growing. And we need that momentum to continue.

French citizens are ready for a change in leadership, and this deep erosion of trust in Macron’s government has paved the way for a resurgence of populist movements.

2. ⚖️COURTS SET TO RULE ON PROTECTING FREE SPEECH IN GERMANY

FLASHBACK: Last year, Germany’s Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, took an unprecedented step in banning Compact magazine, a right of center publication with a sizable following both in print and online.

The justification? Allegations of “inciting hatred” and “aggressively propagating the toppling of the political order.” No criminal charges. No evidence of violent incitement. Just a sweeping claim that the magazine’s views are a threat to democracy.

Haven’t we heard this one before…🙄

However, the ban didn’t go unchallenged. In August, Germany’s federal administrative court temporarily lifted the ban, acknowledging the serious concerns it raises about press freedom. Compact has been able to continue publishing until a final verdict has been handed down.

The European Conservative hit leftist German politicians for supporting the ban:

Not surprisingly, mainstream politicians, including then-chancellor Olaf Scholz defended the ban, with Scholz stating that “freedom of the press includes being able to say a lot of nonsense, but there are limits that you can’t overlook.”

When the original ban came down, leading AfD member Alice Weidel commented on the matter stating:

“The ban on Compact Magazine is a severe blow to press freedom. We are observing these events with great concern. Banning a press publication means denying discourse and diversity of opinion. A ban is always the most far-reaching step. Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser is thus abusing her powers to suppress critical reporting. We call on the minister to respect press freedom.”

NOW: The federal administrative court in Leipzig is set to render a final verdict.

When government officials start labeling unpopular speech as dangerous simply because it clashes with their worldview, they’re not protecting democracy, they’re dismantling it.

Freedom of the press dwindles more and more every day in Europe… This court decision is make or break.

🌱POLAND REJECTS EU OVERREACH

Poland has just drawn a firm line in the sand against EU overreach.

On June 10, the country’s Constitutional Tribunal ruled that key climate and energy mandates from Brussels, central to the EU’s Green Deal, violate the Polish Constitution.

This decision marks a major victory for national sovereignty, signaling that Poland will not be strong-armed into costly green policies that threaten its economy and energy independence.

The ruling has been celebrated by conservative lawmakers, who argue that Poland has dodged a massive economic burden.

Law and Justice party member, MP Sebastian Kaleta took to X, writing in part: “I have been saying for years that the EU is robbing Poland with its climate policy and today the Constitutional Tribunal has formally and finally confirmed it. Today’s verdict means hundreds of billions in savings for the Polish economy.

Incoming President Karol Nawrocki is expected to double down on this stance. He has already pledged to hold a referendum on the Green Deal.

Farmers, miners, and workers who’ve rallied against the EU’s ridiculous mandates see this as a turning point, proof that their voices are finally being heard.
