Welcome to the EU-US Forum Weekly Tip Sheet, your go-to product for information about the EU-US Forum and its work, timely updates on the dangerous far-left ideas coming out of the European Union, and detailed analysis on the key players influencing European politics.
We send this out weekly to keep you apprised of the most important political and policy topics in Europe as we continue to work toward our mission of exposing the EU’s radical agenda and the threat it poses to the US and Western Civilization.
1. 💻 TRUMP DRAWS THE LINE IN THE SAND WITH CANADA AND THE EU
The European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) continues to take a heavy toll on American tech companies. Even more alarming, Canada recently attempted to follow Europe’s lead with its own Digital Services Tax, which is legislation that would have forced U.S. companies like Amazon, Meta, Google, and Apple to pay roughly $3 billion upfront, with ongoing annual losses projected between $900 million and $2.3 billion.
In a recent op-ed, EU-US Forum Founding Board Member Matt Mowers described Europe’s DSA, saying that it is “supposed to be about regulating online speech, but in practice, it disproportionately applies to U.S. platforms.”
These kinds of schemes are becoming flashpoints just as President Trump is taking bold steps to fix unfair trade practices.
In fact, President Trump announced on Truth Social last week that he had cut off all trade discussions with Canada in response to their egregious tax on American tech firms.
GOOD NEWS: In response to pressure from President Trump, Canada has folded — announcing it will reverse course and nix their digital tax in order to get trade talks with the U.S. back on track.
The EU must follow suit.
Make no mistake: the Trump Administration will not sit idly by while Canada and the EU attempt to exploit and unfairly target American tech companies.
2.❄️ NOT COOL ENOUGH FOR SCHOOL
Europe’s rush toward radical net-zero goals risks turning green ambition into green authoritarianism.
Students across France are being sent home amid a heat wave, with temperatures surpassing 85°F by the early morning. Why? Because air conditioning is still largely shunned. Instead of cooling classrooms, school officials are canceling classes.
This news led the European Conservative to ask: Is Wanting A/C Now Far-Right?
The EU’s climate agenda is getting the best of their children’s education…
National Rally’s Marine Le Pen took her outrage over the situation to X, where she made a scathing post criticizing the poor air conditioning infrastructure in France, and calling out the fact that schools, the government, hospitals, and more public services are all on hold due to the heat wave.
Running air conditioners in classrooms should hardly be considered an environmental disaster… but European leftists are more concerned with virtue signaling than practicality, and school children sweltering in their classrooms are the ones paying the price.
📺 CONTROLLING THE NARRATIVE
The European Commission has done it again – blatantly lying to the public about its spending of taxpayer dollars on the so-called “independent” media, and there are numbers to prove it.
Despite claims that the EU spends €21 million per year on European media outlets, a Euroactiv analysis has reported that this figure is “significantly higher,” making it abundantly clear that the European Commission has been underreporting its funding to hide its support for the pro-EU media. And the evidence is overwhelming:
Under the budgetary period of 2021-2027, the EU has allocated more than €210 million to the media with an average of €35 million per year — 66% more than the amount the European Commission claims it is spending. Between 2021 and 2023, the EU gave €215 million to the media, including €99 million in 2022—surpassing the seven-year budget in just three years. The 2024 EU election period saw €133 million in taxpayer dollars sent to completely unknown media outlets.
When pressed on this damning information, a Commission spokesperson simply downplayed the situation, claiming that the previously reported €21 million figure only accounts for the most direct source, while the rest of its spending is constantly changing. It was a weak, bare minimum explanation, providing no honesty or transparency to what is actually happening.
But according to a recent report from MCC Brussels, the European Commission has given €80 million to “friendly” media per year, totaling €1 billion over the past decade.
In addition, Euronews, an outlet that received €25 million per year from the European Commission between 2014 and 2023, was given a contract for €11 million and an additional €3 million specifically for content in Poland and Hungary in October 2023, just two months prior to the Polish election.
That’s not journalism, that’s propaganda.
The Commission may say it is trying to prevent a decline in pluralism, but it’s really doing the exact opposite. It’s not supporting independent media, it’s purchasing the narrative to push its liberal agenda. And it has to end.
