August 21, 2025 – EU-US Forum Tip Sheet

Welcome to the EU-US Forum Weekly Tip Sheet, your go-to product for information about the EU-US Forum and its work, timely updates on the dangerous far-left ideas coming out of the European Union, and detailed analysis on the key players influencing European politics.

We send this out weekly to keep you apprised of the most important political and policy topics in Europe as we continue to work toward our mission of exposing the EU’s radical agenda and the threat it poses to the US and Western Civilization.

1. 🧑‍🌾 EU RESTRICTS SUBSIDIES FOR FARMERS

Once again, the European Union is implementing policies from on high that will hit the people who put food on Europe’s tables.

This fall, Brussels is pushing to cap farm subsidies at €100,000 per farmer, with steep reductions kicking in well before that. On paper, it’s being sold as a way to help the small farmer — but anyone paying attention knows this is really another top-down attempt to micromanage agriculture across 27 very different nations.

The EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has, for years, been full of waste and red tape, but this proposal takes things further. It punishes larger, more efficient farms — the ones that feed Europe at scale — because they don’t fit the Commission’s vision of a small family plot.

In countries like Slovakia and the Czech Republic, where most farmland is managed by bigger operations, Brussels’ cap will hit hardest. That means fewer investments, fewer jobs, and ultimately higher food prices for consumers.

What’s more, this isn’t just about cutting costs. It’s about control. Instead of letting member states shape policies that reflect their own agricultural traditions and economies, Brussels insists on one-size-fits-all rules. It’s the same story we’ve seen time and again: a central bureaucracy pretending to know better than farmers who have been working their land for generations.

Amidst a growing number of serious challenges in Europe such as inflation and food security, the EU’s answer is to hamstring its most productive farmers. This isn’t “solidarity.” It is ideology disguised as fairness, and in the end, it risks undermining the very backbone of Europe’s food supply.

2.❌ CLIMATE POLICY GOES UP IN FLAMES

Currently, Spain is dealing with serious wildfires that are devastating the regions of Galicia, Andalusia, and Castilla-La Mancha. As more findings come out, some suspect regulations imposed by the EU’s climate police have created the perfect circumstances for wildfires.

Local communities once managed their forests independently, but new climate regulations now require them to obtain permits for any activity. Under EU rules, this bureaucracy has made it harder for locals to care for their forests. In Galicia, Spain, excessive red tape means land can only be managed once every three years.

Heart-wrenching interviews of residents in Spain say they feel “powerless.”

In Spain, a significantly larger amount of money is spent on firefighting than on prevention. In June, European court auditors even called out the failings in Spain, and now Galicia, Andalusia, and Castilla-La Mancha have to pay the price.

Spain has decided that “climate regulations” will prevent wildfires, which is simply not true. Climate virtue signaling has cost the Spanish people more than €2 billion annually. Spain needs to focus on real issues pertaining to our environment, like wildfire prevention, not just looking good to climate elitists in Europe.

🌎 A TALE OF TWO WORLDS

Congressional leaders Scott Fitzgerald, Jim Jordan, and Kevin Kiley recently led a delegation to Brussels to investigate the EU’s speech laws, and the results are extremely concerning for both Europe and the United States.

The EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) is a policy that was intended to get rid of “hate” or “misinformation”, but this overreach in Europe now risks silencing Americans, too. What Representatives Fitzgerald, Jordan, and Kiley discovered is shocking in their recent telegraph piece they stated:

Thierry Breton – one of the architects of the DSA and the first European Commissioner in charge of its enforcement – appeared to attempt to use the DSA to censor American political speech in the lead-up to our 2024 presidential election.

EU leaders openly pressure American platforms to scrub perfectly legal political content, especially when it might “spill over” into the EU. Brussels feels that Americans should submit to their rule of law and sacrifice our political beliefs.
