July 2, 2024 – EU-US Forum Tip Sheet

Welcome to the EU-US Forum Weekly Tip Sheet, your go-to product for information about the EU-US Forum and its work, timely updates on the dangerous far-left ideas coming out of the European Union, and detailed analysis on the key players influencing European politics.

We send this out weekly to keep you apprised of the most important political and policy topics in Europe as we continue to work toward our mission of exposing the EU’s radical agenda and the threat it poses to the US and Western Civilization.

This week’s version is coming to you two days earlier due to the July 4 holiday on Thursday. We will be back to our regular schedule next Thursday.

1. CONSERVATIVES BIG BOOM 💣💥: The French snap elections began Sunday with the highest voter turnout since the 1980s and a roaring lead for the conservative National Rally party far ahead of Macron’s flailing ruling party. The results were so brutal for Macron that he is calling for citizens to vote for the far-left party over his own in the next round just to defeat the National Rally and prevent Marine Le Pen and other conservative allies from gaining a majority, which they are on track to do.

Justifying his new tactic, Macron stated, “We must make no mistake. It is the far-Right that is on its way to the highest office, no one else.”

Reminder: Just last week, Macron said that if the far-left or National Rally came to power, there would be a civil war.

The second round of voting will take place this Sunday for constituencies that did not elect a candidate by a majority in the first round. In the second round, whichever candidate wins the most votes will win the seat.

According to exit polls from Sunday, National Rally could win 250-310 seats, an almost 400% increase in seats from the last elections just two years ago. This would give them not only a majority in the lower chamber, but the Prime Minister seat as well, leaving Macron and his Presidency weak in “cohabitation” with National Rally’s Jordan Bardella.

EU-US Founding Board Member, Matt Mowers responded to the big news and stated, “Following historic victories for conservatives in the EU elections a few weeks ago, France today reaffirmed their desire to move away from the failed left-wing playbook in favor of common sense conservatives focused on free speech and free people. Time for Brussels to wake up!

🤯🤯🤯 Seems like the French President’s plan to stop the momentum of the right blew up in his face.

Shameful Macron who, by calling for “blocs” against the Rassemblement National in the second round, behaves like any other Von der Leyen and tries in every way to oppose a change expressed by millions of French people, in Paris and in Brussels. #legislatives2024

EUROCRATS REFUTE CHANGE: As reported last week, current EU Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, will once again be elected by Parliament after her nomination by the EU Council with her far-left alliance. This comes despite pushes from conservatives for a change in leadership, policy priorities, and alliance shifts. EUCO president will be Portugal’s socialist António Costa and EU foreign affairs lead will be far-left Kaja Kallas of Estonia. Both von der Leyen and Costa are wrapped up in their own corruption investigations “confirming the conventional wisdom that Brussels appointments are the epitome of ‘failing upwards.’”

This entrenched leftist coalition (EPP, Socialist and Democrats, and Renew) ignores voters voices and keeps conservatives sidelined unless Italy’s Meloni can break a deal with von der Leyen to give her group, ECR, a weighty EUCO executive vice presidency, which would require their support of von der Leyen in the Parliament official votes on her appointment in two weeks.

What They Are Saying:

  • PoliticoVon der Leyen and Costa: Europe’s new dynamic duo
  • @EUUSForum: Although Europeans sent a clear message rejecting the policies of bureaucrats like von der Leyen, she is celebrating ANOTHER term as head of the EU. Are you satisfied with her ‘leadership?’
  • @PM_ViktorOrban: The @EPP built a coalition of lies and deceit with the Socialists and the Liberals. We cannot and will not support this shameful agreement. This is not what the European people voted for! #EUCO
  • @PM_ViktorOrban: European voters have been deceived. The @EPP formed a coalition of lies with the left and the liberals. We do not support this shameful agreement! #EUCO

Meanwhile, Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party will not be joining ECR or ID groups, but has started their own political alliance – “Patriots for Europe” in hopes to become an official Parliament political group. Any new Parliamentary political group requires 23 MEPs from seven nations. Patriots of Europe has over 23 MEPs from three nations and more are on the way, such as Portugal’s Chega.

Hungary also began its six month EU Council Presidency Monday with a trip to Ukraine.
