April 3, 2025 – EU-US Forum Tip Sheet

Welcome to the EU-US Forum Weekly Tip Sheet, your go-to product for information about the EU-US Forum and its work, timely updates on the dangerous far-left ideas coming out of the European Union, and detailed analysis on the key players influencing European politics.

We send this out weekly to keep you apprised of the most important political and policy topics in Europe as we continue to work toward our mission of exposing the EU’s radical agenda and the threat it poses to the US and Western Civilization.

1. ⚖️ LAWFARE: MARINE LE PEN BARRED FROM 2027 PRESIDENTIAL RACE

In a troubling display of political manipulation, Marine Le Pen, Deputy of France’s popular conservative party, National Rally, has been sentenced to four years in prison, €100,000 in fines, and a five-year ban from public office, effectively barring her from running in the 2027 presidential election.

This is nothing more than an attempt to subvert democracy and politically persecute a member of a party that rejects the EU’s leftist ideology that also rose to popularity in recent elections.

Founding Board Member of the EU-US Forum Matt Mowers spoke on the outrageous verdict this week during an interview on Fox News’ The Guy Benson Show:

“You had them selectively choose to prosecute, charge and convict the leading presidential candidate for their upcoming elections in 2027. This comes on the heels of her political party, the National Rally, doing quite well in the elections last year, getting nearly 40% of the vote, almost a record high for them. You can’t imagine this is by any other means or purpose other than to disenfranchise their voice in France. You’ve seen a lot of leaders across the board, including some folks who are no fan of hers politically, call out this injustice and its anti-democratic underpinnings.”

Barring Marine Le Pen from office is a deliberate break from the democratic values that once united the U.S. and Europe.

U.S. President Trump reacted to the news, stating: “That’s a big deal… a lot of people thought she wasn’t going to be convicted of anything… that sounds very much like this country.

It’s as if the establishment in France took lessons from Biden’s DOJ, who tried to imprison President Trump after seeing the conservative coalition building across the country.

Leaders across Europe, like Hungary PM Viktor Orban and Deputy PM of Italy Matteo Salvini, have also spoken out against this outrageous move:

In the 2024 elections, Le Pen led in first-round voting intentions with 38%, ahead of the runners-up, former prime ministers Edouard Philippe (26%) and Gabriel Attal (20%).

This anti-democracy move is also reminiscent of the current lawfare facing conservatives in Romania, where the country’s establishment blocked a popular right-wing leader from their election.

As France’s populist bloc grows, the court’s verdict is an outrage and should be reversed immediately.

LE PEN ISN’T GIVING UP — she spoke out this week: “I’m a fighter. I’m NOT going to let myself be eliminated. I will pursue every avenue of appeal that I can. I have fought for the French people for 30 years and I will keep doing so all the way.

2. 😰 NON-GERMANS FUELING VIOLENT CRIME CRISIS

German citizens are having to grapple with YET ANOTHER sharp increase in violent crime and a disturbing rise in murder, manslaughter, and rape. According to the latest police statistics, the most heinous offenses surged, with violent crime up 1.5% in 2024.

Even more concerning, the number of non-German suspects implicated in these crimes has grown significantly, by 7.5%.

Germany is known to have a MASSIVE number of migrants living in their country currently. The Wall Street Journal revealed a figure of Germany’s staggering migrant numbers late last year:

Even with the crazy demographics in Germany – with close to HALF of their population being noncitizens – German liberals are still pushing to accept 500,000 migrants every year – and give them voting rights.

According to new reporting, regions like Bremen and Berlin are the least safe, with over three times more crimes per capita than the year prior.

In January, the EU-US Forum conducted polling that found 72% of European citizens believe countries should impose harder border controls to reduce the flood of illegal migrants coming into Europe.

Germany needs to make a change NOW! Will Merz finally listen?

🇨🇳 EU SIDES WITH THE CCP

Ridiculous.

The feeble leadership of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) has announced it will not investigate the rapidly unfolding CCP “Huaweigate” scandal, despite clear evidence uncovered by Belgian authorities.

The case involves allegations of bribery tied to China’s Huawei Technologies. The CCP-backed technology company bribed at least 15 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to influence legislation in its favor.

Investigators found evidence of luxury gifts, covert payments, and high-end trips being exchanged for political favors, all under the guise of lobbying.

OLAF claims the initial evidence wasn’t sufficient, a statement that raises serious questions given the severity of the accusations and the growing number of arrests.

In an interview with POLITICO, Ville Itälä said:

“We need[ed] something more concrete to act upon… We have to keep calm and carry on, build faith in the system; otherwise people won’t trust us anymore.”

Critics argue that this inaction reflects the broader dysfunction within EU institutions, casting doubt on their commitment to tackling corruption impartially.

With the case implicating high-ranking MEPs, this scandal further fuels the perception of selective justice within the EU.
