The event was a panel discussion that focused on EU-US relations and covered topics such as the EU’s extreme censorship policies like the Digital Markets Act (DMA), overregulation in Europe’s energy sector via the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), unchecked illegal migration, and President Trump’s approach to the EU on trade and defense spending.

WASHINGTON — The EU-US Forum, an American nonprofit organization that aims to advance President Trump’s conservative agenda in Europe and stop the EU’s radical leftism from coming to the US, conducted polling in five European Union member states that found citizens largely feel the EU is moving in the wrong direction and are frustrated with high taxes, government inefficiency, and the rise of the far left.

On behalf of the EU-US Forum, the Tyson Group conducted public opinion surveys in five European Union member states: France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Portugal from January 13 – January 22, 2025.

The poll largely found that EU citizens are disappointed with current leadership and conservative sentiments and policies are overwhelmingly popular.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has a net -4 favorability rating across all five EU member states polled. In her home country of Germany, von der Leyen is underwater, with 60% disapproving or are unsure of the job she’s doing.

After experiencing not one but two government collapses in the past year, 74% of French citizens disapprove of the job President Emmanuel Macron is doing in France.

A staggering 70% of Germans disapprove of Chancellor Olaf Scholz. This comes as Germany’s conservative party, AfD, is on the rise ahead of Germany’s elections.

A significant portion of French (73%) and Italian (63%) respondents expressed uncertainty or disagreement with the EU’s lack of representativeness for recent EU election outcomes where conservative parties gained significant victories.

Nearly a majority of respondents said their personal financial situation has worsened in the past year.

Conservative sentiments are overwhelmingly popular in Europe: reestablishing domestic food production (83% approve) and implementing harsher border controls to reduce the flood of illegal migrants (72% approve).

Following the political chaos that France and Germany have faced in the past year, respondents in these countries believe, by a wide margin, that the rise of the far left is a bad thing: 84% and 61% respectively.

Alex Alvarado, Tyson Group Vice President, said in a memo about the poll:

“A significant portion of citizens feel the EU is moving in the wrong direction, largely due to concerns over its leftist agenda and leaders like European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Macron and German Chancellor Scholz who face high disapproval ratings.

Many respondents also feel that recent EU election outcomes, which saw significant gains by conservative parties, are not accurately reflected in the EU’s policies. Issues like the rising cost of living, healthcare, and migration remain top concerns, while conservative solutions like stricter border controls and a focus on domestic food production garnered widespread support. This survey highlights a clear shift toward conservatism across Europe, with citizens expressing frustration with high taxes, government inefficiency, and the perceived rise of the far-left.”

The EU-US Forum Founding Board Member and former Trump Administration Official Matt Mowers and EU-US Forum Board Member and former Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council Joseph Grogan, released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s appointment of Senator Marco Rubio to serve as the Secretary of State and Representative Michael Waltz to serve as his National Security Advisor.

“The United States will be respected by the world again under President Trump — and his recent selections of Marco Rubio as Secretary of State and Michael Waltz as National Security Advisor ensure a restoration of Western dominance on the world stage.

American and European voters alike outright rejected the failures of globalists in Brussels and D.C. this year, and Rubio and Waltz are two strong leaders who will promote a commonsense energy agenda, peace through our military strength, and immigration policies that put America and its allies first.

The EU-US Forum supports these selections by President Trump and we have no doubt that Rubio and Waltz will restore President Trump’s America First foreign policy agenda.”

Grenell Also Slammed Kamala Harris’ Foreign Policy

VIENNA, Austria – The EU-US Forum, an American nonprofit organization that shines a light on the harmful policies coming out of the EU in order to stop them from spreading to the US, hosted a fireside chat discussion in Vienna, Austria with Former Ambassador to Germany and Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell and Guy Benson, Fox News Contributor, nationally-syndicated radio host, Townhall political editor, author, and columnist.

Grenell and Benson discussed the future of EU-US relations as well as current events, including the EU’s attempt to censor President Trump’s X Spaces interview and the nomination of Kamala Harris. Grenell notably shared his insights about the possibility of a future Trump Administration and how President Trump would approach global matters in his second term.

Ambassador Richard Grenell calls EU bureaucrats “enemies of free speech:

BENSON: There was this little contretemps back home in the last 24 hours, Donald Trump did this lengthy interview or conversation with Elon Musk on Twitter or X, and it went a couple hours. I read that there were a million people who watched. And leading up to it, there’s a lot of hand-wringing in the American press. You saw someone on CNN expressing concern that Donald Trump would be able to say whatever he wanted to say, which is literally free speech. And they were concerned about that. We had a Washington Post reporter ask the press secretary at the White House, ‘Could the president or the administration do anything to stop this conversation?’ And then there was this missive, this letter, fired off by some EU Commissar, almost threatening, sort of saber rattling, about free speech and harmful content and that sort of thing surrounding this conversation. The Trump campaign put out quite a statement in response to that EU official calling the EU broadly enemies of free speech. Do you agree with that?

GRENELL: Yeah, of course, they are enemies of free speech. First of all, the two Americans talking about what’s going on, talking about the election, is all about freedom of speech, if someone is going to try to have a chilling effect to say they shouldn’t be able to speak freely because there’s hate speech or misinformation, first of all, this misinformation nonsense has got to stop. It’s not misinformation. Sometimes it’s someone’s opinion, and the best way to confront something that you don’t agree with is to speak out and give your facts and let people decide. There should never be a government agency or entity deciding to stop dissent because they think they know what’s right.”

Ambassador Richard Grenell on the advice he gives to world leaders when asked how to prepare for another Trump term:

BENSON: You speak on a regular basis with world leaders, heads of state, that sort of thing. I’d imagine you have conversations that go something like this, ‘If Trump wins again, and he’s president again, what should I do to prepare myself, my country, for what the world will look like under American leadership, with Donald Trump at the helm?’ Broad strokes, what is the advice that you would give, generically, whether it’s, you know, Macron, you know, go down a list.

GRENELL: I think it’s pretty simple, and I do get this question a lot, not just from world leaders, but from all sorts of people and the media, constantly asking, ‘What is the world going to be like if Trump wins?’ I push back and I just say, You know. You saw him for four years. I believe that when America puts itself first, that the world benefits, because we are not a nation that conquers and takes. We are a nation that establishes rule of law, respect, democracy, capitalism. Those rules are what everybody wants. They don’t always abide by them, but those are the international rules that are the best, that make the best system. I’m really proud of America when we put ourselves first because we establish rules that benefit everybody else. America First doesn’t meet America alone. It means we create a system that’s fair, and then there’s kind of the coalition of the willing on different issues.”

Matt Mowers, founding board member of the EU-US Forum and former Senior White House Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, spoke about Brussels bureaucrats ignoring the will of European voters who demanded change at the EU:

“The problem is this: Brussels is still ignoring the will of the voters, because they refuse to actually change any of the leadership that is emanating out of Brussels, despite the fact that the voters of Europe and the European Union sent a loud and clear message of a new direction. That they wanted a direction that involved stronger border controls, decentralized control so people could live their lives, a protection of free speech… they’ve ignored that because they want to hold on to the political power.”

Ambassador Richard Grenell called Kamala Harris “the most radical nominee America has ever seen:”

Kamala Harris is by far the most woke Democrat in California. She is radical by her own words. She’s questioned red meat, she doesn’t think we should have read meat because it’s bad for the environment. She is on video saying ‘You got to be woke.
The EU-US Forum, a newly formed nonprofit organization launched to shine light on the harmful policies coming out of the EU to stop them from spreading to the US, hosted a panel discussion in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday morning to explore migration policy in the EU and the similar issues the United States and Europe are experiencing related to border security.

The panel was moderated by The Rubin Report’s Dave Rubin and included multiple former Trump administration officials. The panelists repeatedly blasted Joe Biden’s open borders agenda and discussed how far-left leaders in Brussels are pursuing the same failed policies abroad.

The panelists were:

Matt Mowers, Founding Board Member of the EU-US Forum and Former Senior White House Advisor at the U.S. Department of State

Joe Grogan, Senior Advisor of the EU-US Forum and Former Director of the Domestic Policy Council of the United States

Chad Wolf, Former Acting Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security and America First Policy Institute Executive Director, Chief Strategy Officer, and Center For Homeland Security & Immigration Chair

Kara Frederick, Director of Tech Policy at The Heritage Foundation

James Carafano, Foreign Policy Expert at The Heritage Foundation

They also touched on polling released by the EU-US Forum earlier this week that showed Europeans are yearning for conservative policy solutions ahead of their EU elections next week (June 6-9) and as EU member states struggle with the cost of living, illegal immigration, government censorship, and food production issues.

Watch the full panel by clicking HERE and view some of the highlights below.

Dave Rubin —

The immigration topic has become something that I talk about on the show all the time, I’m very interested in. And I would say, especially in light of some of the world events, probably post-October 7th, it’s something that everybody should be thinking about because we need to know who is in our country. It’s really as simple as that.

You can’t have a country if you don’t have borders. I think our European friends, and we’ll get into this in just a bit, our European friends are really realizing that you know, 10 years post allowing millions and millions of people in, they now have cultural issues, they have crime issues, and they have social service issues and a litany of other problems.

Matt Mowers —

DAVE RUBIN: You guys have put out some polling recently showing that really the number one issue for people in Europe right now is the immigration issue. How do you think that — well, first off, I take it, you’re not surprised by that. But how do you think it will affect the upcoming election?

MATT MOWERS: That’s gonna have a dramatic impact. And it’s, you know, primarily driven by immigration, but really a lot of the issues which are the cornerstone of what we focus on. I mean, you asked about government censorship. We asked the question of, and we polled in five countries, by the way, we were in Portugal, Italy, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. And we asked the question, ‘Are you more concerned today than you were previously about government censorship?’ Over 60% of respondents in most of the countries said, ‘Yes.’ We asked, ‘Are you concerned that radical policies on restrictions and regulations on energy is going to be a national security issue?’ something that we have the same discussion right here in the United States today when we talk about a ban on LNG and a whole number of other issues, over 60% said, ‘Yes.’ We then said, ‘Do you believe there needs to be stronger controls on border security? And are you concerned about illegal migration?’ Over 75% in almost every single country said, ‘Yes.’ In fact, the only country where it’s a little bit lower, and was still in the high 60s was Italy, and you actually have an ascendant Conservative Right, trying to make some changes right now in immigration already there. And so what illuminates to us and you look at then support levels for political parties, there’s an ascendant Right today, in part because of the policies of these issues. They know that the European Union, they know that many of the governments in their own countries have failed to address these core issues around individual liberty and the security around border control. And so they’re looking for a change.

Joe Grogan —

The Elites for too long lied to their populations about what they were doing, and the consequences of what they were doing, and tried to convince people to trust them, that there were no cultural differences, there would be no increase in crime, that this was, you know, consistent with values, the European values, American values. Well, you know, law and order is consistent with European values. It’s consistent with American values. And what we see now is the tolerance of those populations has just run out.

The dependency upon social service programs, the crime, the rise in lawlessness, both here in the United States, this absurd situation of luxury hotels in New York City being filled up, you know, petitions being delivered to the mayor of Denver with demands on the part of immigrants, you think about the libertarian wonderland that the United States was in 1924 versus all the social services we have available now and all the demands and the tremendous large asset the Biden administration has put in place to entice people to come here. I think that the populations have, the general populations have just had enough of being lied to, and their generosity of spirit has finally broken and they have to have this stop because their quality of life has deteriorated so much and their faith in elected leaders to address this honestly, has been exhausted.

Chad Wolf —

I mean, look, countries that — leaders and policymakers that love their country, want to secure their country, want to have national sovereignty, these are not extreme positions. You know, if you go back 20, 25 years ago, even probably less, these were positions that most politicians here in the US and elsewhere embraced. It’s only because I think the Left and the Progressive Party have gone so far left that they’ve tried to paint, look, if you want to have some control over your borders if you want to understand who’s coming into the country, that you want to actually vet people coming into your country, understand where they’re going, understand what the value is that they provide to the country that they’re coming. These are not radical positions. But of course, if you are for those, you get painted as being radical. So what I say to that is, yes, I’m radical. I’m going to embrace that all day every day. Because, again, and Matt talked about the polling I think if you look at a majority of Americans or EU folks, right? They want that this is what they are craving right now. And it could be a reaction to the far Left and the Progressive [Party] of where they’ve taken those different countries over the last three years here in the US, or it could just be this is common sense.

Kara Frederick —

You know, on a personal note, my grandmother’s from Mexico, my grandfather is of Latin American extraction, El Salvador. And there used to be the whole assimilation, integration, you know, adopting legitimate American values. And at this point, and it goes with the terrorism issue and the counterterrorism apparatus that should be working against this, at this point, you have people come in and sort of say, ‘No, I’m gonna retain everything about the country that I voluntarily left, and bring it over here instead of embedding within the fabric and the social fabric of America as well.’ And I think we saw that in Europe, you know, I remember listening to those sob stories from the BBC, of all the migrant boats in the Mediterranean.

And, you know, even me with my background, it was 2014. I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, you know, like, help the people out.’ And yet, we’re getting reporting out of West Palm Beach, saying someone claiming asylum was trying to lure an 11-year-old — did manage to do it, and they’re committing crime after crime. You have reports, way back when there was reporting that Venezuela was opening up its prisons and letting them come over here. And now Daily Wire is saying, ‘Yeah, there’s a drop in crime in Venezuela.’ And correlation does not always equal causation. But this matters, and it matters to our security situation. So the more that we can expose this, the better but we’re still not there yet. The problem is only growing.

James Carafano —

Part of the problem, why it’s hard to close the deal is because it’s really hard to convince people that the strategy in here is a real thing. Because the real strategy is really very simple. It’s to create a right of global migration, that anybody in the world can move anybody in the world they want. Because the consequence of that is, is that national governments would be overwhelmed and unable to control that. And then the response to that is we would just have global governance. Now, that’s, that is really the agenda. It’s hard to convince people that that’s true because it just sounds so fantastic. But here’s the proof of that is look at how the — let’s just look at the United States and put Europe aside for a second. But look at how American politics has changed over the last 30 years. 30 years ago, immigration was the third rail of politics, you cannot get any Democrat or any Republican on any stage to debate this. And the reason for that was, is immigration was demographically was different all over the country. Everybody had different concerns, and it was like, just don’t go there. It’s just bad politics. And then the Democratic Party then says, ‘Well, this is an opportunity for amnesty’ right?

But if you remember, like 20 years ago, the Democratic Party in the United States said, ‘We want a secure border.’ They voted for the Secure Fence Act, and this was the deal, give us amnesty, and we will, we will secure the border. And today, you cannot find a Democrat that believes that securing the border is valid. And so what has driven that massive shift in policy direction? And it is top-down. And the reality is, if you’re on the Left, you have to look in the mirror and say, ‘Dude, I’ve been played.’ That they’re not trying to be nice to immigrants. They’re not trying to be more humanitarian, they’re not trying to give us more workers to help with our economy. They’re actually driving an agenda that’s actually going to hurt me as an American.

WASHINGTON — The EU-US Forum, a nonprofit organization that launched to shine a light on the harmful policies coming out of the EU in order to stop them from spreading to the US, released a memo detailing the results of an eye-opening public opinion survey conducted by the Tyson Group in five European Union member states (France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal).

The EU-US Forum/Tyson Group poll results suggest strong dissatisfaction with current European leadership and a shift toward conservative policy solutions. The top issues for the European citizens surveyed are the cost of living, the economy/unemployment, and migration. The survey was fielded as these issues are top of mind for Euorpeans who will head to the polls in two weeks to vote in the EU’s parliamentary elections.

Alex Alvarado, Tyson Group Vice President, said:

“The surveys fielded earlier this month make clear that EU citizens are yearning for changes in their governments and the policies they pursue. There is a strong negative sentiment towards the direction the EU is headed and the leadership in various countries. This phenomenon is driving the uptick in support conservative parties saw in each of our surveys.

EU citizens are struggling financially and blame the high taxes and excessive energy regulations that are being pursued by their home governments and in Brussels. The backlash in Europe, however, is not just limited to the economy. Respondents are also worried about the expansion of government censorship and the inability of their leaders to secure their borders. Our data suggests a vast conservative shift is well under way in some of the largest countries in the European Union.”

BERLIN, Germany — The EU-US Forum, a nonprofit organization that shines a light on the harmful policies coming out of the EU in order to stop them from spreading to the US, today announced a major paid media effort throughout Germany targeting the proposal by the German Transport minister’s to ban weekend driving and set new speed limits to meet climate goals.

The campaign will consist of billboards, mobile billboard trucks, and other marketing on and around the Autobahn, as well as throughout the city of Berlin.

This effort in Germany is part of a broader six-figure campaign across Europe that began last week. The EU-US Forum previously deployed similar tactics urging citizens to demand change to the European Union’s speech and immigration policies. The organization targeted the EU Commission president candidate debate at Maastricht University in the Netherlands on Monday night with billboards, mobile billboards, and digital ads. The ads ran on billboards in train stations, in key Italian newspapers, on social media platforms, and in the sky via airplane in Rome and read:
